Awesome PC!!!

Has been a great PC so far. Wife needed a replacement for her 15.4in Dell. She was tired of lugging a heavy, big, overheating PC around.

Now one can fit in her purse!! Super small form factor, powerful, sleek, and sexy! Small power adapter also compliments its small size. Great for web browsing, office documents, email, etc.

I didn't realize however that it didn't come with bluetooth, but that is easily remedied with a USB Bluetooth adapter. Found one online and it was super tiny. Not much bigger than the USB port itself.

Battery life is great! With the included power management features and being conscious to close it when not in use it can last all day!

A great little computer

I've had this for a month now, (ASUS Eee PC 1000HA) and am glad I chose this model. It's very difficult to imagine just what using a laptop with a 10" screen is like; not until I actually got extended "hands on" experience could I get the real feel for it.

Others commented on the placement of the right shift key, and I was having a hard time envisioning what they were talking about - now I know! The keyboard is comfortable to type on for me. I'm a touch typist, and the placement of the right shift key has caught me by surprise with my cursor going somewhere else on the screen several times(the shift key on the right is at the far edge of the keypad, with the arrow keys coming before the shift key, so when I'm typing and go to hit the shift key, I'll hit an arrow key and send the cursor off on an independent frolic). The left shift key is where it should be, so no issues with it. I have pretty much just conditioned myself to stop and look before trying to hit the right shift key.

The keyboard feels a little insubstantial - I can actually see and feel it flex when in use. This is the only reason I gave just 4 stars rather than 5. I do feel I have to sort of go easy on it because of this. Fortunately, most of my use of the laptop is with the mouse. The touchpad mouse is no better, or no worse than others - I don't particularly like any of them. I use a small laptop wireless mouse when I'm able to (when I'm home, that's pretty much all the time). When I'm taking the computer away from home I just deal with the touchpad. One tip, pretty easy to figure out, is that for clicking, you get the best results by clicking on the front edge of the touchpad as opposed to the top.

This little thing is a pure pleasure to take with me when I need to take it away from home - the real reason for its being! Weighs only 2 pounds, totally easy to carry. It also comes with its own little carrying sleeve.

Battery life - I've run it right down to the edge of dead several times, and I've not gotten the advertised 7 hours, but 5 is definitely do-able. I have to say that all the times I've used up all its capacity, I've done so while using wi-fi. I do think that if the wi-fi were not being used, 7 hours would not be out of the question at all. And it really is great for sitting in the recliner and catching up with reading all the news sites and message boards I follow. This size makes it a "laptop" in the purest sense. The first time I turned the computer on, it recognized my home wi-fi setup and after entering in the password, away we went.
It comes with MS Works suite loaded, and Skype. There's a built in web cam, and the 160GB hard drive is very ample. It also has some free online storage(for a trial period anyway). I don't make use of this; when I looked into it, it just wasn't something I felt was an advantage.
My main use for this is for taking with me to classes I teach so I can refer to my notes, and the ease of transporting along with the long battery life make it just right for this.

When using this computer, you'll want to drastically reduce use of any toolbars you might use; there just isn't enough screen real estate to spare for things that are not absolutely essential.

All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase. It really can do all I want it to do. I'm also glad I got the white version; it's a very pretty piece of equipment and the white helps to not show the fingerprints.

Also, my unit was shipped by Beach Camera, as Amazon didn't have it in stock. I got absolutely GREAT service from them, had the computer on Saturday after placing my order on Wednesday. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.

Great Netbook

The screen is unbelievably bright and the clarity of the contrast is amazing compare to my Acer Notebook.
The only drawback that I saw is the webcam, which I think is useless. The picture and video of the cam should have a lot of lighting to be able to see the image.

Totally Cool Notebook

ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Notebook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony I bought this little dynamo because I "Just couldn't live without it" I already have 2 other notebooks with larger screens, HDD's, and Optical drives, that do all sorts of stuff for me. One is an Acer, the other is a Generic, that I picked up from taking a class a couple of years ago. The generic runs at a 3.0 Ghz the Acer at 2.1 Ghz. My next door neighbor bought one,(a 9 inch) and when I saw it I just had to get my own. Thus far it has met all my needs but the best thing I like is the lightness, battery life, and the "Cuteness" of it. I anticipate taking it to my monthly "Kaffee Klatch" of guys and gals I used to work with some 50 years ago, to show some home movies that I've taken over the years, and know that the battery will last the full two hours plus of our BS sessions. The only negative and is with all Touchpad mice is that they are too damn sensitive. I bought a USB mouse, that I use with it, as well as the rest of my Notebooks. I also upgraded the RAM to 2 Gb and purchased an external optical drive that I can use with it as well as a separate carrying case in lieu of the one that comes with it. It works well with my wireless LAN, and even some of my neighbors. I wanted to test it last time I went to Arizona to find a WI-FI spot and test it there, but ran out of time. I also love the SD additional storage that is also with the machine. I have an 8 Gb that is more than sufficient to view a movie, and you can say have a 1/2 dozen of the cards to watch a number of movies on your travels. I've not used the built in camera with it yet, and see no need to for the near future.
However, I guess it would set well with the younger set who love to chat online, I gave that up when I met the love of my life some years back when it was Un-Cool to meet online. I love this machine.

Many times you used the term "bomb-proof" notebook to define a performance above average, but this time the notebook could actually be able to withstand a grenade.

Certainly the grenade was really too much, but as the E6400 Latitude XFR notebooks equipped with the technological Ballistic Armor Protection System, which I doubt you would be intimidated by a small trauma. The body made of magnesium allows the notebook to resist sand, water, dust and stubborn bumps up to several meters in height.

Dell XFR Latitude E6400 comes with an Intel Core 2 Duo P9600 from 2.66GHz, 128GB of SSD, RAM that can reach 8GB depending on the configuration chosen, 14.1-inch screen with WXGA resolution and graphics card NVIDIA Quadro NVS 160M with 256MB of DDR2 memory.

This miniature rock will be a very high cost $4300 alone in the base configuration (and then try to imagine the top of the range).

Archos Embraces The Digital TV DVB-SH

ARCHOS has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent and ICO to demonstrate the operation of a mobile system for receiving digital television at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in early January.

The demonstration given at the ESC with the help of Alcatel-Lucent and ICO's telecommunications has been focused on the DVB-SH (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite services to Handhelds) to situations of everyday life. In particular has been proven the capability of the DVB-SH standard to work on an ongoing basis with the receipt so the only signal to the satellite signals from terrestrial broadcast or a combination of satellite and terrestrial signals.

ARCHOS, already a pioneer in solutions for mobile reception of broadcast DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial), has decided to from now on an expansion of its offering to include the DVB-SH technology that not only specifically designed for reception on handheld devices, is able to offer benefits that go far beyond those of the standard DVB-T.

The transmission and use of mobile digital TV has been demonstrated on the latest models ARCHOS Internet Media Tablet, specifically devices ARCHOS 5 and ARCHOS 7 were prepared with a special software that can receive video data stream of DVB-SH. At was also presented the prototype of an accessory for receiving the television signal on board cars.

With screens from 5 "and 7" and ARM Cortex processors, devices, ARCHOS Internet Media Tablet had no problem to return absolutely crisp images with a fluidity of movement greater than that of any other portable device. The architecture ARCHOS offers, through the simple purchase of an accessory and a plug-in software, the ability to make all devices for the next production of TV future. This solution is also compatible with ARCHOS model 10, the mini-laptops recently presented to the market.

"Archos has been able once again to demonstrate its know-how, innovative solutions dedicated to mobile devices of high quality. The aim would be to first-hand what users could reserve the near future in terms of mobile TV experience with a quality equal to that of traditional TV lounge. The ability to reduce the current gap between fixed and mobile TV will be the determining factor for the success of mobile TV, "said Henri Crohas, founder and CEO of ARCHOS.

Regarding Europe, the telecommunications company Solaris Mobile, a joint venture between SES Astra and Eutelsat, has announced its intention to launch a satellite for transmission of a bouquet of television channels based on the standard S-band DVB-SH . Putting into orbit the satellite is expected in early spring 2009, while the first mobile TV services will be available towards the end of the year. During 2009 ARCHOS has also forecast the issuance of an accessory and a plug-in software for television reception on mobile Internet Media Tablet and the mini-laptop.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers, confirming its role as innovator in the field of environment and energy saving, has made a mark "Green IT" for their products. The new logo will allow customers to easily identify the devices made with eco-compatible technologies.

The mark "Green IT" allows for the rapid product performance in terms of energy efficiency and environmental impact during the entire life cycle, from production stage through to recycling, according to a set of rigid criteria. In addition, the label Green IT is a benchmark for internal Fujitsu Siemens Computers, for a continuous improvement in the development of eco-systems.

Giuseppe Magni, Marketing Director of Fujitsu Siemens Computers, commented the news: "With the development and introduction of this new independent system of identification of Green IT, we have raised the level of our commitment to the environment. After two decades of success in technological innovations eco-compatible, the company has a new ambition, to make further improvements. The brand new "Green IT" confirms our desire to have a leading role among IT providers in terms of processes and environmentally friendly technologies, and demonstrates the commitment of the development of a computer."

The level of approval higher than three stars, indicating that the products exceed the current legal provisions relating to Green IT. The three-star label is in fact allocated only to those able to answer a list of requirements related to materials, recycling and energy consumption. For example, a business client to three stars should be produced only with materials free of halogen, must be accompanied by guides made with chlorine-free paper, in addition the product must be dismantled by one person using instruments commonly available and all with plastic components weighing more than 25g should be reported according to the standard ISO 11469:2000 for easier identification during disposal.
Dynabook: the concept ancestor of the notebook turns 40 years

It past about 40 years since the first concept notebook. A frightening developments (like the rest of the technology) that in recent years seen its characteristics changes day by day.

It's interesting to see that the notebook we know today all descended from a single concept never made it Dynabook was never realized, yet is the model that provided the foundations for the creation of notebooks that we know today. And it is this concept that three days ago has celebrated 40 years at the Mountain View Computer History Museum.

Dynabook was designed by a programmer of Xerox, Alan Kay, who wanted to create a laptop designed (at least initially) children. Just when computers weighed 50 kilos, he designed a concept for a 1 kilo that was decisive for the creation of notebooks, in fact in 1968 for the development of the Dynabook, other developers joined the project managed to work actively to the creation of the first notebooks to be sold on a large scale: Osborne 1, a PC portable (weighing about 10 kilos) released in 1981 boasted of having the beauty of 65 kilobytes of memory for an attractive price of 1800 dollars.

We read on the walkways that appeared a very technical and very feminine ... the notebook disguised as handbag! Looking well, by far, we have the impression that it is a pochette hard but the HP logo express everything.

This is a notebook signed exclusively by Vivienne Tam and presented at New York Fashion Week.

Small, convenient, hi-tech and especially fashion, technology finally becomes fashionable trends and meet the spring-summer 2009: the press and the colors chosen for the skin of the mini-pc, in fact, repeating the leitmotiv of 'Entire collection of Tam. The price: 700 dollars. But for a notebook that combines over the wardrobe that's good enough.
