Awesome PC!!!
Has been a great PC so far. Wife needed a replacement for her 15.4in Dell. She was tired of lugging a heavy, big, overheating PC around.
Now one can fit in her purse!! Super small form factor, powerful, sleek, and sexy! Small power adapter also compliments its small size. Great for web browsing, office documents, email, etc.
I didn't realize however that it didn't come with bluetooth, but that is easily remedied with a USB Bluetooth adapter. Found one online and it was super tiny. Not much bigger than the USB port itself.
Battery life is great! With the included power management features and being conscious to close it when not in use it can last all day!
A great little computer
I've had this for a month now, (ASUS Eee PC 1000HA) and am glad I chose this model. It's very difficult to imagine just what using a laptop with a 10" screen is like; not until I actually got extended "hands on" experience could I get the real feel for it.
Others commented on the placement of the right shift key, and I was having a hard time envisioning what they were talking about - now I know! The keyboard is comfortable to type on for me. I'm a touch typist, and the placement of the right shift key has caught me by surprise with my cursor going somewhere else on the screen several times(the shift key on the right is at the far edge of the keypad, with the arrow keys coming before the shift key, so when I'm typing and go to hit the shift key, I'll hit an arrow key and send the cursor off on an independent frolic). The left shift key is where it should be, so no issues with it. I have pretty much just conditioned myself to stop and look before trying to hit the right shift key.
The keyboard feels a little insubstantial - I can actually see and feel it flex when in use. This is the only reason I gave just 4 stars rather than 5. I do feel I have to sort of go easy on it because of this. Fortunately, most of my use of the laptop is with the mouse. The touchpad mouse is no better, or no worse than others - I don't particularly like any of them. I use a small laptop wireless mouse when I'm able to (when I'm home, that's pretty much all the time). When I'm taking the computer away from home I just deal with the touchpad. One tip, pretty easy to figure out, is that for clicking, you get the best results by clicking on the front edge of the touchpad as opposed to the top.
This little thing is a pure pleasure to take with me when I need to take it away from home - the real reason for its being! Weighs only 2 pounds, totally easy to carry. It also comes with its own little carrying sleeve.
Battery life - I've run it right down to the edge of dead several times, and I've not gotten the advertised 7 hours, but 5 is definitely do-able. I have to say that all the times I've used up all its capacity, I've done so while using wi-fi. I do think that if the wi-fi were not being used, 7 hours would not be out of the question at all. And it really is great for sitting in the recliner and catching up with reading all the news sites and message boards I follow. This size makes it a "laptop" in the purest sense. The first time I turned the computer on, it recognized my home wi-fi setup and after entering in the password, away we went.
It comes with MS Works suite loaded, and Skype. There's a built in web cam, and the 160GB hard drive is very ample. It also has some free online storage(for a trial period anyway). I don't make use of this; when I looked into it, it just wasn't something I felt was an advantage.
My main use for this is for taking with me to classes I teach so I can refer to my notes, and the ease of transporting along with the long battery life make it just right for this.
When using this computer, you'll want to drastically reduce use of any toolbars you might use; there just isn't enough screen real estate to spare for things that are not absolutely essential.
All in all, I'm very pleased with the purchase. It really can do all I want it to do. I'm also glad I got the white version; it's a very pretty piece of equipment and the white helps to not show the fingerprints.
Also, my unit was shipped by Beach Camera, as Amazon didn't have it in stock. I got absolutely GREAT service from them, had the computer on Saturday after placing my order on Wednesday. I wouldn't hesitate to order from them again.
Great Netbook
The screen is unbelievably bright and the clarity of the contrast is amazing compare to my Acer Notebook.
The only drawback that I saw is the webcam, which I think is useless. The picture and video of the cam should have a lot of lighting to be able to see the image.
Nice little notebook
Ordered this product via Amazon.com from The Netherlands.Had it delivered in Houston.Excellent service and great Asus Eee PC 1000HA.Wthin a few minutes ready to use!
Totally Cool Notebook
ASUS Eee PC 1000HA 10-Inch Notebook (1.6 GHz Intel ATOM N270 Processor, 1 GB RAM, 160 GB Hard Drive, 10 GB Eee Storage, XP Home, 6 Cell Battery) Fine Ebony I bought this little dynamo because I "Just couldn't live without it" I already have 2 other notebooks with larger screens, HDD's, and Optical drives, that do all sorts of stuff for me. One is an Acer, the other is a Generic, that I picked up from taking a class a couple of years ago. The generic runs at a 3.0 Ghz the Acer at 2.1 Ghz. My next door neighbor bought one,(a 9 inch) and when I saw it I just had to get my own. Thus far it has met all my needs but the best thing I like is the lightness, battery life, and the "Cuteness" of it. I anticipate taking it to my monthly "Kaffee Klatch" of guys and gals I used to work with some 50 years ago, to show some home movies that I've taken over the years, and know that the battery will last the full two hours plus of our BS sessions. The only negative and is with all Touchpad mice is that they are too damn sensitive. I bought a USB mouse, that I use with it, as well as the rest of my Notebooks. I also upgraded the RAM to 2 Gb and purchased an external optical drive that I can use with it as well as a separate carrying case in lieu of the one that comes with it. It works well with my wireless LAN, and even some of my neighbors. I wanted to test it last time I went to Arizona to find a WI-FI spot and test it there, but ran out of time. I also love the SD additional storage that is also with the machine. I have an 8 Gb that is more than sufficient to view a movie, and you can say have a 1/2 dozen of the cards to watch a number of movies on your travels. I've not used the built in camera with it yet, and see no need to for the near future.
However, I guess it would set well with the younger set who love to chat online, I gave that up when I met the love of my life some years back when it was Un-Cool to meet online. I love this machine.
