Archos Embraces The Digital TV DVB-SH

ARCHOS has partnered with Alcatel-Lucent and ICO to demonstrate the operation of a mobile system for receiving digital television at the Consumer Electronics Show held in Las Vegas in early January.
The demonstration given at the ESC with the help of Alcatel-Lucent and ICO's telecommunications has been focused on the DVB-SH (Digital Video Broadcasting - Satellite services to Handhelds) to situations of everyday life. In particular has been proven the capability of the DVB-SH standard to work on an ongoing basis with the receipt so the only signal to the satellite signals from terrestrial broadcast or a combination of satellite and terrestrial signals.
ARCHOS, already a pioneer in solutions for mobile reception of broadcast DVB-T (Digital Video Broadcasting - Terrestrial), has decided to from now on an expansion of its offering to include the DVB-SH technology that not only specifically designed for reception on handheld devices, is able to offer benefits that go far beyond those of the standard DVB-T.
The transmission and use of mobile digital TV has been demonstrated on the latest models ARCHOS Internet Media Tablet, specifically devices ARCHOS 5 and ARCHOS 7 were prepared with a special software that can receive video data stream of DVB-SH. At was also presented the prototype of an accessory for receiving the television signal on board cars.
With screens from 5 "and 7" and ARM Cortex processors, devices, ARCHOS Internet Media Tablet had no problem to return absolutely crisp images with a fluidity of movement greater than that of any other portable device. The architecture ARCHOS offers, through the simple purchase of an accessory and a plug-in software, the ability to make all devices for the next production of TV future. This solution is also compatible with ARCHOS model 10, the mini-laptops recently presented to the market.

Regarding Europe, the telecommunications company Solaris Mobile, a joint venture between SES Astra and Eutelsat, has announced its intention to launch a satellite for transmission of a bouquet of television channels based on the standard S-band DVB-SH . Putting into orbit the satellite is expected in early spring 2009, while the first mobile TV services will be available towards the end of the year. During 2009 ARCHOS has also forecast the issuance of an accessory and a plug-in software for television reception on mobile Internet Media Tablet and the mini-laptop.
